Why this matters for carbon markets
India’s Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) and the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) both price the emissions embedded in production. The same tonne of steel, aluminium or hydrogen carries materially more embedded CO₂ when it is made while the grid is carbon-heavy than when it is clean. Right now the all-India grid is 16.4% more carbon-intensive than its 7-day average, at 638 gCO₂/kWh — a live signal for scheduling energy-intensive, trade-exposed production. We surface the live grid intensity from measured fuel mix; we do not quote credit prices.
