Every rupee goes back into energy access

India's transmission, generation, market, and tariff data lives in fragmented PDFs, state utility portals, and paywalled vendors. EnergyMap.in normalizes this public data into a single open atlas — so researchers, journalists, engineers, and policymakers can actually use it. We are building the gridstatus.io for India, in public.

EnergyMap.in is operated as a non-profit. 100% of donations are reinvested into energy data infrastructure and programs that expand access to energy in underserved parts of India. No dividends, no founder payouts — just infrastructure and impact.

Personal Donations

Support open energy data with a one-time or recurring contribution. Indian taxpayers receive an 80G receipt for eligible deductions. Every donor helps keep the atlas free for journalists, students, and researchers.

Atlas Research Partner

For corporates funding India's grid data layer.

For companies and institutions funding India's sovereign energy data infrastructure — typically through CSR budgets, philanthropic capital, or DFI grants.

India Energy Atlas publishes its core datasets as public infrastructure — accessible to government, academia, and research institutions. That public layer is sustained by organisations that fund specific Atlas research outputs.

As a founding partner, your organisation sponsors a named dataset or working paper — the DISCOM Payment Scorecard, the Solar Capture Rate Index, the Open Access Friction Report. The output is published publicly. Your organisation receives acknowledgment, co-branding on the published output, and a seat at the launch.

Funding and CSR questions

Can a company hold both an Enterprise License and sponsor a dataset?

Yes. These are different entities transacting separately — the commercial entity subscribes; the research foundation or CSR committee funds a sponsorship. Both relationships can coexist.

Is the Atlas Research Partnership 80G deductible?

India Energy Atlas holds 80G registration. Whether your specific contribution is deductible depends on your tax position and the structure of the engagement. We provide documentation to support your CA's assessment. We do not give tax advice.

Why donate or sponsor when the data is already public?

The public layer costs money to keep current — scrapers, storage, engineers, regulatory reads. Sponsors keep it free for everyone else.

What's the smallest CSR or donation amount you accept?

₹1,00,000 for an individual donor. ₹10 lakh for a CSR engagement (this is the minimum that gets a named output and CSR documentation). No upper bound.

Where does the money actually go?

Roughly 70% to data engineering and infrastructure, 20% to research analysts, 10% to compliance and audit. We publish a one-page annual breakdown in the Atlas Annual Report.

What proof of impact can you share with my CSR committee?

A short impact brief per engagement: who used the sponsored output, how it was cited, what regulatory or commercial decisions referenced it. Request a sample at hello@energymap.in.

Are you really a non-profit, or is this a tax wrapper?

Section 8 company. 80G and CSR-1 registered. Annual accounts audited and filed with MCA. Happy to share the certificate of incorporation and the latest audit report on request.
