Karnataka — Data Verification vs CEA / SLDC / SR-LDC
Verdict · PASS — All-time peak and installed capacity reconcile within tolerance (capacity gap is a physical-vs-allocated basis difference, IEA-1199). The separate "two-year peak" tile understates the true peak by ~24% (systemic IEA-1198) — flagged, not a same-basis data error.

Distinct peak fields on the page (read carefully)
The Karnataka page surfaces four different demand fields. They are NOT interchangeable; the headline peak verdict compares the all-time peak against the authoritative record.

Findings
- All-time peak verifies (✅, headline). The page's all-time-peak field reads 18,655 MW ("13 March 2026"). Karnataka's authoritative demand record climbed 14,367 (FY21) → 14,818 → 15,828 → 17,220 MW (FY24), then crossed 18,000 MW in Feb/Mar 2025 with ~18,500 MW projected for April 2025 (The Week). A fresh 18,655 MW record in March 2026 is the next rung on that rising YoY trend and sits +0.8% above the ~18,500 MW 2025 anchor — well within ±5%. No misread; the displayed value is plausible and reconciles.
- Two-year peak tile understates by ~24% (❌, systemic — IEA-1198). The tile reads 14,053 MW (identical to "today's peak"), while the true two-year peak is ≥18,500 MW and the page's own all-time field shows 18,655 MW. This is the known systemic two-year-peak understatement bug IEA-1198 — referenced, no new ticket. It does not affect the headline verdict because the all-time field is correct.
- Installed capacity total reconciles within tolerance — basis difference (✅, IEA-1199). Page shows 37,675.8 MW (capacity physically located in Karnataka — sum of in-state plants). CEA's Aug-2025 allocation-wise table gives Karnataka's allocated share as 36,271.36 MW (Sub-Total GrandTotal; row confirmed to belong to Karnataka — Coal 9,947.80, Gas 370.05, Diesel 25.20, Hydro 3,631.60, Nuclear 698.00, RES 21,126.81). These are two DIFFERENT bases (physical-in-state vs allocated share, IEA-1199); for Karnataka they happen to land only +3.9% apart, within ±5%. Not a tolerance failure.
- Fuel-level mix — physical vs allocated basis (⚠️, IEA-1199). Gas (370.05) and Diesel (25.2) match CEA exactly. Coal is lower on the page (9,480 vs 9,947.8 allocated), Hydro higher (3,689.2 vs 3,631.6), Nuclear higher (880 vs 698.0 — physically-in-state Kaiga units vs Karnataka's allocated Kaiga share), and RES higher (23,231.36 vs 21,126.81 allocated). The divergences are consistent with the physical-vs-allocated basis split rather than data errors; the totals still reconcile within ±5%.
- Anchors 4–6 (AT&C, RPO, tariff) not cross-verified this pass. PFC/KERC primary documents were not retrieved; these are honestly marked unverified rather than assumed correct.
Methodology
Live values read from the Karnataka page on 2026-05-30; authoritative values quoted with source + retrieval date (2026-05-30). CEA capacity taken from the Aug-2025 allocation-wise report (/tmp/cea_ic.txt, Karnataka Sub-Total row, GrandTotal = 36,271.36 MW), with the row re-confirmed against its Coal/Gas/Diesel/Hydro/Nuclear/RES sub-columns to ensure it belongs to Karnataka (the layout misaligns the state name onto the State sub-row). Capacity is reported on both bases (page = physical in-state; CEA = allocated share, IEA-1199). The two-year-peak tile understatement is tracked under IEA-1198. No value interpolated.
Part of the F40 per-state cross-verification programme (IEA-1070).
