A national register of India's substation projects, with the network model to say what each one changes.
The Substation Tracker is a register of substation projects in India. Each record carries the substation, its voltage, its owner, its state, the stage it has reached — planned, sanctioned, under construction, commissioned — the expected or actual commissioning date, the capital cost where published, and a link to the document the entry came from.
Records are re-checked on a schedule. When a project moves stage, slips a date or changes scope, the change is kept alongside the original entry, so the tracker shows the history of a project and not only its present state.
Underneath the tracker
Most substation lists tell you what is being built. The tracker sits on a network model, so it can also tell you what that changes.
We maintain the India Grid Graph: a single conflated network of 28,744 substations and junctions and 31,453 transmission lines across all 34 states and union territories, built from CEA filings, state transmission utility registers and satellite-derived geometry. Every exported AC line at 132 kV and above carries resistance, reactance and a thermal rating, so it is an electrical model rather than a map.
A DC power flow solves on the state-reduced network — 34 nodes and the inter-state corridors between them — against measured interchange and published regional flows. That is what lets us answer where a new injection or a new block of load redistributes nationally, instead of stopping at the fence of one substation.
Who uses it
Data centre developers
Land, utility approval and construction run on different calendars, and the one that slips is usually power. The tracker shows which substations near a shortlisted site are being built or uprated, how much capacity is being added and when it is expected to energise — so a site is ranked on grid delivery dates, not just on fibre and floor plate.
Solar & wind developers
Resource is the easy part; evacuation decides the project. Track the 220 kV and 400 kV substations and lines being added in a resource zone, with sanction and commissioning dates, so a bid is placed into a corridor that will exist when the plant does — and so a connection application is filed against the right bay.
BESS developers
A battery is paid for congestion and for spread. Both move when the network changes. Read substation and line additions against our IEX price forecasts to find nodes where relief is late or partial and the arbitrage holds through the asset's life, rather than siting into a constraint that clears in year two.
